Boy found in shipping container not trafficked, says Saifuddin

JOHOR BARU: There are no elements of human trafficking in the discovery of a foreign child in a container at Westport in Klang, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic).

He added that the container in which the boy, named Fahim, was found was brought in by the MV Integra which sailed out of Bangladesh.

“When the vessel arrived at Westport and the container was unloaded, authorities found the boy inside.

“He is the only one found inside the container. A police report has been lodged and the boy, who has a fever, was taken for a medical examination.

"We are now in the process of repatriating him.

"We are not linking this to human trafficking because the initial investigation found that he entered the container, fell asleep and (was transported to) Malaysia,” he said here on Friday (Jan 20).

Earlier, a photo of the boy went viral on social media and South Klang police confirmed the discovery.

It was found that the boy was unintentionally locked inside the container while he was playing with some friends in Chittagong in Bangladesh.

South Klang OCPD ACP Cha Hoong Fong said the boy was found in a weakened state by a port worker.

The 43-year-old man reported the find at the Pandamaran police station at 1.53pm on Wednesday (Jan 18), he added.

He said the boy was taken to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah for treatment and was in stable condition, adding that the case had been referred to the Immigration Department.
